Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe Speedboat: Prices, Schedule & Travel Guide
From Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe via the Trang islands
Koh Lipe is a small island in Tarutao National Park, close to the Malaysian border. Many Malaysians reach it from Langkawi. If you're already in Koh Lanta, though, a speedboat can take you straight there in about 3 hours. On the way it hops past the Trang islands of Koh Ngai, Koh Mook and Koh Kradan.
Destination Thailand calls this route "the best boat ride in Thailand". The catch is that it only runs in the high season. This guide covers the operators, departure times, baht prices, arrival fees on Koh Lipe and what to do when the boats aren't running.
- All prices are in baht. 12Go only lists per-departure prices in US dollars, so I've shown its timetable without prices. Its page title says fares start from THB 1,350. Check the live price on 12Go when you book.
- Seller prices vary. Visit Thailand Today lists Bundhaya at ฿1,700. Phuket Ferry shows the same Bundhaya boat at both ฿1,700 and ฿1,150 without saying which is the sale price. Travelfish lists ฿1,900. Destination Thailand gives a range of ฿1,350 to ฿1,900 as of October 2026.
- Season dates conflict. Visit Thailand Today says 15 October to 20 May. Travelfish says 20 October to 31 March. Destination Thailand expects about 1 November to the end of April for 2026/27. Some operators start earlier or finish later.
- The Travelfish page is older. It mentions new stops for 2019, so its prices may be out of date.
- Expect delays. Travelfish warns that these operators aren't punctual. 12Go reviewers mention 3 to 5 stops on the way.

Arriving on Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe has no deep-water pier. Big boats stop at a floating pontoon off Pattaya Beach. From there, a longtail takes you to the sand for about ฿50 per person. Some tickets include this.
You'll also pay the Tarutao National Park fee: ฿200 per adult and ฿100 per child in cash. Destination Thailand says it's valid for five days. Some operators quote ฿220 with a pier levy included.
Watch out: there's no separate island entrance fee. Destination Thailand warns that a laminated card asking for one is just the same ฿200 park fee. Any extra charge is a scam signal.
In the rainy season, Visit Thailand Today says boats may land at Sunrise Beach instead.
Pattaya Beach, Koh Lipe: where boats from Koh Lanta arrive
Low season: how to get there from May to October
Direct boats from Koh Lanta don't run in the low season. You can go overland instead.
- Take a minivan from Koh Lanta to Pakbara Pier in Satun. Travelfish lists ฿600, leaving at 08:00 and taking 4 to 5 hours.
- Take a speedboat from Pakbara to Koh Lipe, depending on the weather.
Destination Thailand estimates about ฿1,000 in total for this route. It takes most of the day.
Going the other way: Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta
In season, Visit Thailand Today says island-hopping boats leave Koh Lipe at 09:00 for Koh Lanta and Phuket. A second boat runs at 12:00 in the high season. Travelfish lists Bundhaya's 09:00 boat arriving in Koh Lanta at 12:00, for ฿1,900.
Tips for Malaysian travellers
- Carry plenty of baht in cash. You'll need it for the park fee and the longtail. Destination Thailand says Lipe's ATMs can run out.
- Halal food: Koh Lipe is in Satun, a mostly Muslim province. You'll find halal options on the island. Pack snacks for the 3-hour boat ride.
- Sit at the back to stay dry. One 12Go reviewer was drenched from head to toe on an open speedboat.
- Use a dry bag. You may have to step into the water when you get off the longtail.
- Book early for January. Destination Thailand says January boats from Lanta fill up days ahead.
- Going home via Langkawi? Koh Lipe has boats to Langkawi, so you can end your trip back in Malaysia.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Planning this route in the low season.
- Forgetting cash for the park fee and the longtail.
- Paying a fake island entrance fee on top of the park fee.
- Booking a tight onward connection on the same day. Boats often run late.
- Packing valuables in your big bag. It may get wet.
