Koh Rok: clear water and shallow reefs 30 km south of Koh Lanta
Koh Rok is the best snorkelling day trip from Koh Lanta. These twin islands, Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai, sit about 30 km south of Koh Lanta inside Mu Ko Lanta National Park. They have fine white coral sand, clear water and reefs just a few metres below the surface.
Most tours also stop at Koh Haa, a group of limestone islets with a sheltered lagoon. This guide covers the tour, exact prices from two sellers, park fees and what to expect.

Koh Rok: about 500 metres of fine white coral sand
Koh Rok is two islands separated by a shallow channel. The main beach on Koh Rok is about 500 metres long and is where day-trip boats land for lunch.
Travelfish says visibility is usually excellent and much of the coral lies within five metres of the surface. You'll often see angelfish, pufferfish and anemones, with occasional turtles and sharks.
Koh Rok: watch for large monitor lizards near the beach
Look out for large monitor lizards resting among the fallen leaves near the beach.
Koh Haa: a lagoon ringed by limestone cliffs
Koh Haa means "five islands" in Thai. It's a cluster of limestone islets northwest of Koh Rok, with a lagoon surrounded by cliffs. It's great for swimming, snorkelling and photos. One tour guide mentions turtles, moray eels and colourful fish here.

Children from about 3 or 4 years old can join, depending on the operator. Tin Adventure accepts ages 3 to 70, with travellers aged 60 to 70 needing their own travel insurance. Pregnant travellers and those with heart or back problems can't book.
The shallow beach at Koh Rok is good for kids who aren't strong snorkellers.
Koh Rok: basic park camping in high season
Koh Rok has basic park camping in high season. Travelfish lists standard tents at ฿450 a night, or ฿30 to pitch your own tent, with shared cold-water bathrooms. Staying overnight means you can snorkel after the day boats leave.
Go between November and April for calm seas and clear water. Tours don't run from 16 May to 31 October, when the park closes for the rainy season. Tours aren't cancelled for rain alone, only for unsafe seas.
