12 Top-Rated Restaurants in Koh Lanta: Reviews, Food & Locations

Koh Lanta: family-run Thai kitchens and beachfront dining

Koh Lanta has a surprisingly good food scene for a laid-back island. You'll find family-run Thai kitchens with thousands of five-star reviews, beachfront restaurants with sunset views and even an authentic Greek taverna.

We've picked 12 of the top-rated restaurants on Koh Lanta based on Google and Tripadvisor ratings, each with a long review, a review link and a map link.

Worth being upfront about four things: first, ratings come from Google (via Wanderlog), Tripadvisor and Trip.com, which use different review pools. A few places have only a handful of reviews. Second, some highly rated restaurants are closed. Patty's Secret Garden by the Sea is listed as permanently closed, while Shanti Beach House and Drunken Sailors are listed as temporarily closed, so I've left them out. Third, I couldn't find detailed reviews for Yang Garden beyond its rating and one note that it has been voted number one on Tripadvisor. Finally, most of these restaurants serve alcohol and are not halal. A Malaysian newspaper, The Star, describes Yawee as pork-free and Muslim-run. Chill Lay Lanta is halal-certified. For more options, see our guide to halal restaurants in Koh Lanta.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Turning up at a closed restaurant without checking recent reviews.

  • Assuming every top-rated restaurant is halal.
  • Booking a beachfront dinner without checking sunset times.
  • Missing local Thai kitchens because they look simple from the road.
