Koh Chang: roadside food stalls from White Sand Beach to Lonely Beach
Koh Chang doesn't have one big night market like Phuket or Krabi Town. Instead, food stalls set up along the west coast road in the late afternoon, from White Sand Beach down to Lonely Beach. Each beach area has its own small cluster, plus a few local spots where Thai residents and resort staff eat.
This guide covers where to find them, when they open and what to eat, with baht prices where available.
| Market | Area | Days | Hours | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| White Sand Beach Night Food Market | North-west | Daily | About 5pm to 11pm | Easiest to find |
| Klong Prao Temple food stalls | Centre-west | Daily (extra stalls morning and evening) | All day | Local food, lower prices |
| Klong Prao north end stalls | Centre-west | Daily | Early morning and late afternoon | Cheap noodles |
| Kai Bae night market and Walking Street | West | Daily | Evening | Food plus bars |
| Lonely Beach night market | South-west | Daily | About 6pm to midnight | Nightlife crowd |
| Klong Son village | North | Late afternoon | Not listed | Khao lam (bamboo sticky rice) |
| Bang Bao Pier | South-west | Daily | Daytime to evening | Seafood restaurants and shops |
This is Koh Chang's best-known night market, on the roadside in the middle of White Sand Beach. Visit Thailand Today rates it 4.2 stars from 656 reviews. It lists the market as open daily from 5:30pm to 11pm, livening up closer to 7pm.
You'll find grilled meats on sticks, grilled fish, kebabs, corn on the cob, sticky rice, fresh fruit and fruit shakes. I Am Koh Chang says the banana rotis are always a safe bet. It also warns that quality is inconsistent and some meat may be cooked hours earlier, so try one item before ordering more.
Prices (I Am Koh Chang, about 2014): corn, sticky rice and meat skewers for under ฿100 in total. Fruit shake ฿40, plate of fruit ฿30.
Just north of Klong Prao temple on the main road, a row of food stalls serves both tourists and locals. I Am Koh Chang says they're open all day, with extra stalls in the early morning and early evening. It gets busy when resort staff finish their shifts, which is a good sign. Thailand Routes calls the Klong Prao market the most local option, with lower prices.
What to eat: a wide choice of Thai dishes, fresh fruit and takeaway snacks.
At the far north end of Klong Prao Beach, near Coconut Beach Resort, a few stalls open early morning and from late afternoon. The choice is limited, mostly kebabs and pad thai. There's also a noodle stall under the eaves of the V Mart supermarket.
Nearby, south of the Santhiya Tree resort turning, I Am Koh Chang lists a noodle stall with an English sign reading Noodles 40 Baht. It serves pork noodles, so it isn't suitable for Muslim travellers.
Kai Bae has a newer night market on the roadside opposite GajaPuri Resort. A TripAdvisor forum member said it still had quite a few empty stalls but was worth a look. Kai Bae's roads are narrow, so I Am Koh Chang notes most food here is in small roadside eateries rather than carts.
Nearby, Kai Bae Walking Street is a beachside bar strip with music and cold drinks. Visit Thailand Today rates it 4.0 from 143 reviews and describes the crowd as social rather than rowdy.
Lonely Beach is Koh Chang's backpacker hub. Thailand Routes says its night market runs daily from 6pm to midnight. It's best after 8pm. Expect cheap street food, drinks and desserts, plus clothing and art stalls. Live music and fire shows run nearby.
In Klong Son village in the north, near the 7-Eleven, local stalls set up in the late afternoon. This is the place to try khao lam: sticky rice cooked with coconut milk inside bamboo over charcoal. It's mostly locals here, so it's a good taste of everyday island life.
Bang Bao isn't a night market, but it's worth an evening visit. The long wooden pier is lined with seafood restaurants and souvenir shops. A TripAdvisor forum member describes it as mostly small shop houses rather than stalls. It's a good place for a seafood dinner after a snorkelling trip.
