Khao Sok Night Safari Jungle Walk: Tour Price, Review & What to Expect

Night safari group with headlamps in Khao Sok jungle

A guided night safari in the Khao Sok rainforest

After dark, Khao Sok's rainforest comes alive. On a guided night safari, you walk jungle trails by torchlight. You look for tarantulas, tree frogs, geckos, snakes and, if you're lucky, a slow loris or civet. It's one of the most popular activities in Khao Sok village. It only takes about 2 hours.

This guide compares night safari prices, explains what you'll see and covers tips for Malaysian travellers.

⚠️ Honest note:
  • Prices vary because inclusions vary. Khao Sok Travel's ฿1,200 includes the park fee, a torch and hotel transfer. Our Jungle Camp's ฿700 doesn't include the park fee. Khao Sok Smiley charges ฿600 plus a ฿200 park fee. Compare what's included, not just the price.
  • The night park fee differs by source. Khao Sok Smiley, Khao Sok Jungle Hostel and Khao-Sok.tours say ฿200 at park HQ. Our Jungle Camp and Shipped Away say ฿300.
  • Ticket validity conflicts. Shipped Away says a night safari ticket bought the night before also covers the next day's Cheow Lan Lake trip. Khao-Sok.tours says HQ and the lake are separate areas, each with its own ticket. Check at the counter.
  • Animal sightings aren't guaranteed. Khao Sok Travel says sightings depend on the weather, the season and how active the animals are.
  • The review is from one couple. Shipped Away's review (updated December 2025) describes one walk with one guide. Your experience may be different.

The walk

Frogs are among the most common night sightings

Shipped Away describes a well-kept path through the rainforest, walked by headlamp. The pace is slow, with lots of stops while the guide spots animals.

Our Jungle Camp lets you choose between the national park and its own 25-acre private rainforest, depending on conditions.

Night safari review

Guide spotting wildlife on a Khao Sok night safari

A good guide makes all the difference

Shipped Away (published January 2025, updated December 2025) says the night safari is worth doing. They point out it isn't an African safari. It's a great way to see rainforest wildlife that hides during the day.

What they liked:

  • Their guide, Rango, was very knowledgeable, especially about spiders.
  • Seeing the civet and slow loris, which are hard to spot by day
  • Learning that tarantulas are nearly blind and won't notice you if you keep your distance

Downsides:

  • Many groups may be walking the same trail. A private tour helps.
  • Not ideal for young children
  • Leeches are common in the rainy season.
  • Fewer animals come out on a full moon.

Is it suitable for kids?

Shipped Away says it's not very suitable for young children. The walk is in the dark and involves spiders and snakes. You also need to stay quiet. Older children who love animals may enjoy it.

What to wear and bring

Headlamp, shoes and leech socks for a night jungle walk

Pack closed shoes, a headlamp and repellent

  • Closed shoes with good grip
  • Long trousers and long sleeves for mosquitoes and leeches, which also suits Muslim travellers
  • Insect repellent
  • A headlamp or torch. Khao Sok Travel and Our Jungle Camp provide one.
  • A camera with a good low-light setting
  • Water
  • Leech socks from May to November

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Wearing sandals or flip-flops.
  • Expecting to see big animals like elephants or tigers.
  • Trying to walk the park trails alone at night. It's not allowed.
  • Comparing prices without checking what's included.
